Human body glands are broadly classified into two types endocrine and exocrine. These glands are creating the hormones (chemical compositions) which are used in different parts of body for its functioning. There is one essential difference between these glands – endocrine glands are ductless and exocrine is with duct. Endocrine hormones reach different parts of body with flow of blood while exocrine hormones are discharged locally to the relevant body part.
In modern society we have a characteristic diseases but one that is normally considered to be not so easy to eliminate. It underlies such diverse condition as psychometric diseases, a chemical dependency, and it is a major contributor to disturbance in once emotional, social and family life.
It in habits creativity and personal effectiveness, and it is present in the sense of general dissatisfaction that is so obvious in our day to day lives. The name of this condition is stress, and it is big medical and social problem in the world today.
Stress is the emotional and physical strain caused by our response to pressure from the outside world. Common stress reactions include tension, irritability, inability to concentrate, and a variety of physical symptoms that include headache and a fast heartbeat.
In medical science, we have the Stress hormones such as cortisol, GH, and norepinephrine which are released during periods of high stress. The hormone regulating system is known as the endocrine system. Cortisol is believed to affect the metabolic system and norepinephrine is believed to play a role in ADHD as well as depression and hypertension.
These hormones in the body secreted by the adrenal glands and involved in the following functions and more:
- Proper glucose metabolism
- Regulation of blood pressure
- Insulin release for blood sugar maintenance
- Immune function etc.
Astrology defines stress by looking at various parts of one’s birth chart; this chart is formed based upon Time Of birth, Place of Birth and date of birth. Stress can be categorized into physical, mental and emotional stress. We have 9 planets which rule over the different parts of the human body and 12 houses which indicate the different parts of human body.
To analyses this issue of stress, we have to consider the following
1. Lagna and lagna lord
2. Moon
3. Venus
4. Mercury
5. Mars / Ketu ( afflicting planet)
6. Saturn / Rahu (afflicting planet)
Lagna: Lagna represents the head in the human body and Lagnesh (Lagna Lord) plays an important and vital role in that. As Per Brihat Jatak, Human rashis (signs) are strong in the Lagna. The human signs are Gemini, Virgo, Libra and Sagittarius. The lords of human signs are Mercury, Jupiter and Venus.
If the lagna and lagnesh are unaffiliated and have good aspects, we can conclude that the native is mentally strong. Lagna / lagnesh represent the state of the head (brain) of the native which regulates the secretion of hormones in the human body. Here we are talking of the glands which are endocrine in nature and here blood plays the major role in defining the problem.
Moon: Moon is the natural karaka for the blood and Hemoglobin in blood defines the oxygen carrying capacity in the blood.
Moon and Venus: Both the planets together, rule the watery composition of the human body. Moon rules the blood and hormones. Venus also rules the Hormones. In Trishamsha (D30) we consider the Venus for the watery composition in a rashi.
Mercury: Planet Mercury represents the nervous system in the human body. Nervous system plays a very important role in carrying the information from the brain to various parts of the body where the things are to be regulated.
Mars: It is the planet which is defined in many ways in the astrology. Its main characteristic is aggression. Classics define that mars makes the human nature more bullish and always ready to exceed its limits. This planet is hot and violent.
Saturn: Saturn is airy and is the slowest planet in Vedic astrology. It is dry and cool. Saturn has a nature to shrink / squeeze the things. Body parts where Saturn has the impact tend to shrink.
How do the planets impact the hormones in the human body?
1. Moon / Venus afflicted by the Mars:
Moon relation to Mars is defined as the Chandra Man gal yoga – this makes the native restless. Talking of the hormones alone, when the Moon / Venus has the Mars impact, there will be over secretion of the hormones from the glands and this, in turn, creates the emotional stress in the native.
2. Moon afflicted by the Mars:
Moon is the karaka for flow of the blood. Impact of mars on Moon increases the Blood Pressure so that the endocrine hormones reach to different parts in high quantity in less time resulting in an increase in the hormones quantity.
3. Moon / Venus afflicted by Saturn / Rahu:
Relation of the moon with the Saturn and Rahu causes depression as defined by the classical text. Impact of Saturn on the endocrine glands results in under-working of the glands leading to lesser secretion of the hormones. This imbalance places the native in depression. Some time it is observed that the ducts / opening also shrink resulting in less quantity of hormones reaching to the respective body part.
4. Affliction of Mars:
In the cases where the Mars is afflicted in the native’s chart, sickle cell anomalies have been observed in the blood. This reduces the oxygen carrying capacity of the arteries thereby affecting the metabolic process of the body.
5. Mercury:
Planet Mercury represents the Nervous system in the human body. The brain regulates and controls all the parts and glands in the human body. To regulate and ensure proper functioning of body parts and glands, all the requisite information is transmitted and received by the brain via the nervous system. Affliction of mercury disturbs the proper functioning of the nervous system of the native. This results in erroneous information being passed to and from the brain. This improper information flow causes disturbance in regulation of secretions from glands thereby resulting in the over or under secretion of the hormones.
This document only defines the relationship of the planets to human body hormones. To understand the affliction to body parts / glands, it is required to use the Parashari system for finding the body part / glands, its divisional charts D-1, D-3 and D-30.
